After the British Open Championships were cancelled in 2020 for the first time since the Second World War due to COVID-19, it was hard to describe the joy and excitement we felt at witnessing such wonderful dancing again in the iconic Empress Ballroom in Blackpool.    While we could have expected standards to drop because of the pandemic, may we reassure you that this was absolutely not the case. Huge credit to all participating couples for their excellent performances!   The Amateur Ballroom Championship was of an incredible level, with all the finalists of the pre-pandemic UK Open 2020 managing to participate again and reaching this final too. The title was won by England’s Kyle Taylor and Izabela Skierska, who triumphed in all four dances, while most other positions were hotly contested and often decided by rule 11.   The Amateur Latin Championships revealed skill levels, class, energy, exuberance and excitement well beyond what could have been realistically expected after such a long enforced break. The eventual winners were Klemen Prasnikar and Alexandra Averkieva from Slovenia.   The enthusiasm to be back on the dance floor was evident throughout the whole festival, leading up to unforgettable and magical Professional Latin final to close the 2021 Blackpool Dance Festival. The British Open Championships in Blackpool’s magnificent Empress Ballroom were super-exciting in 2022. This year’s unforgettable event featured new champions in every category with results often being decided by the slimmest of margins, reflecting how close it was between the top competitors.    The Amateur Ballroom Championship was a particularly tightly fought contest with the superb performance of Michal Le and Sandra Jablonska emerging victorious over Alex Gunnarsson and Ekaterina Bond, and last year’s Under 21 Champions Glenn-Richard Boyce and Caroly Jänes finishing a sensational third.    The Amateur Latin Championship featured many new finalists creating lots of excitement and unpredictable results, with a great performance from eventual winners Salvatore Sinardi and Alexandra Kondrashova.    The charismatic Dorin Frecautanu and Marina Sergeeva triumphed in all five dances in the Professional Latin Championship, with Kirill Belorukov and Valeriya Aidaeva in second place.    Arguably the most unexpected winners of the festival, however, were new partners Valerio Colantoni and Anna Demidova, who won the Professional Ballroom Championship with a sensational performance on their first outing! Dusan and Valeria Dragovic took the top spot in the tango and finished second in all the other dances to take the runner-up spot.   This Dual Layer DVD features Ballroom and Latin, Amateur and Professional. Congratulations to Robin and Chris Short for organising such a striking and memorable championship with such an enthusiastic crowd. To relive all the action and watch more spectacular dancing not part of this DVD, please visit DSI TV on www.dsi-london.tv    With the previous Champions not defending their title, the Amateur Ballroom Championship was hotly contested with Igor Reznik and Mariia Polishchuck from the Ukraine eventually taking the title with Michael Le and Sandra Jablonska from Poland finishing a close second   Klemen Prasnikar and Alexandra Averkieva from Slovenia won the Amateur Latin Championships with Petar Daskalov and Zia James from England finishing second in a brilliant and exciting final featuring many outstanding performances.   With Stefano Di Filippo and Anna Melnikova from Italy returning to the dance floor and eventually finishing second, Troels Bager and Ina Jeliazkova from the USA continued their winning run to be crowned Professional Latin Champions in a closely contested and uber-exciting final with quite unexpected results.   With the defending Champions Andrea Ghigiarelli and Sara Andraccio coming back after their “happy event”, the scene was set for a major tussle and unforgettable & magical contest with the current British Open Champions Domen Krapez and Natascha Karabey from Germany, who succeeded in winning this prestigious Professional Ballroom title in an exciting final.   This double DVD features one DVD exclusively dedicated to Ballroom, showing the semi-finals, the finals, the presentation and the interviews of both Professionals and Amateurs, and an equivalent DVD focusing on the Latin championships.
