Week 11

17th December 2015

It was such a fun week doing Musicals for Strictly!

With inspiration from shows such a Les Miserables, Cabaret, Chicago, Once and Oliver Twist our production team could really have some fun getting their teeth into recreating the iconic characters.

It was an exciting weekend with the only male left in the competition, Jay & Aliona, receiving 3 ten’s for their romantic Rumba.

Kelly made a fantastic pub landlord (funnily enough) dancing the Viennese Waltz to ‘Oom Pa Pa’ and Helen’s dramatic Paso was a winner in our eyes but unfortunately it was time for her and Aljaz to leave the competition.

Let’s have a look at three of our favourite dresses form the Musical themed week:

As worn by Georgia May Foote

Georgia was the perfect Princess dancing the Foxtrot on Saturday night.

It was exciting recreating the ball gown from Beauty and The Beast, and we did so by using the newly introduced colour of Mellow!

The bodice of Georgia’s princess dress was created using Mellow Lycra.

This was then covered in Preciosa Rhinestones in Transmission.

This colour gives all the sparkle without being predominant; great for a subtle touch.

The top of the dress with the iconic off the shoulder detail was created using Mellow Stretch Satin and the Spaghetti straps were covered in the same stones as the bodice.

The iconic skirt was created using the new Mellow Georgette which was gathered for the full petticoat look.

And finally, the stoning on the hips, again to recreate the iconic gown, was created using Citrine AB Preciosa rhinestones, this particular colour, against the transmission previously used, gives more definition to the shape created.

A dress truly fit for a Princess.

As worn by Katie Derham

Dancing the Foxtrot with Anton, Katie perfectly depicted the Musical “Carabret” dressed as Liza Minnelli!

All in black topped with the iconic black wig – her image was faultless.

The main fabric used for Katie’s dress was flocked Baroque Velvet.

The velvet in the fabric oozes with luxury and gives the richest colour of black possible.

The pattern was highlighted with Preciosa rhinestones in Jet Hematite.

The dramatic low v and demure long sleeves were made from DSI’s Stretch mesh and created a sexiness to the outfit due to its sheerness.

To give the skirt fullness, 8 godets were inserted – and to mirror the mesh used at the top, these were cut from black Georgette, which is also sheer; again this emulates a sexiness that was created in the dance and the top of the outfit.

The skirt was them trimmed with 5ply Ostrich Feather boa in black; the perfect accompaniment to this seductive and sensual look.

As worn by Anita Rani

Dancing the Argentine Tango with the very handsome Gleb, Anita’s dress was another seductive and sensual look much like Katie’s.

All in black again, Anita’s dress was made from a relatively new stretch lace; Devine.

This is a very bold and strong statement lace – not the usual pretty florals you’d expect – so perfect for the temptress Anita portrayed on Saturday night.

The high neckline was filled with the sheer black Mesh to create the illusion of a low v neckline whilst still being provocative.

The dipped hem skirt was created using the 90cm length Tactel Fringe, again in black.

Using long fringe for an Argentine Tango is quite unusual but worked perfectly for Anita.

It had movement without being restricting, and was great for showing off the Argentine leg lines.
