Black and white is one of fashion's most timeless combinations.
In Latin couture, however, contrast can become something far more dynamic. It can define the body, accentuate movement and create a graphic presence that remains striking even across the expanse of a championship floor.
For DSI Elite performer Anna Sloukova, this white, silver and black creation brought that philosophy vividly to life during the later rounds of the Amateur Latin Championship at the 2026 Blackpool Dance Festival.
Bold, sophisticated and intensely expressive, the design demonstrates how contrast can become part of the performance itself.
A Study in Contrast
The foundation of the dress is created in Glazed Glow Foiled Stretch Fabric, giving the silhouette a luminous metallic quality that responds continually to changing light.
Against this, a Black Metallic Dot Lycra bra introduces a strong graphic contrast across the upper body.
The combination is deliberately uncompromising.
Light against dark. Shine against depth. Fluidity against definition.
Rather than allowing these opposing elements to compete, the design brings them together into one balanced composition, creating a look with immediate impact while retaining the sophistication expected of championship couture.
From Silver to Black
Movement provides the next layer of the story.
Individual fringe is carefully shaded from Silver Metallic Fringe through to Black Fringe, creating a gradual transition rather than an abrupt division between the two colours.
When Anna is standing still, the graduation creates depth and texture. Once she begins to dance, its purpose becomes even clearer.
Each strand responds independently to rotation, acceleration and changes of direction, extending the movement of the body and creating constantly changing patterns of silver and black.
Silver beads introduce another moving element, adding flashes of light and rhythm as the dress responds to Anna's dancing.
This is where Latin fashion becomes performance fashion.
The garment is not simply being worn during the choreography. It is participating in it.
Brilliance with Purpose
The crystal decoration continues the contrast.
Jet stones reinforce the strength of the black detailing, while Crystal AB introduces brilliance and changing reflections across the lighter areas of the design.
Placed against the foiled and metallic fabrics, the stones create different levels of luminosity rather than one uniform surface of sparkle.
From a distance, the overall silhouette remains strong and immediately recognisable.
Closer inspection reveals the complexity beneath it: metallic fabrics, graduated fringe, beads, crystals and contrasting textures, all contributing to the finished composition.
That balance between distant impact and close-up detail is an important element of successful competition couture.
Designed Around Anna
Anna has a particularly strong visual presence on the Latin floor.
Her dancing is athletic, intense and expressive, and her fashion can therefore carry equally confident design ideas.
Working with DSI London's Creative Designer, Svetlana, this dress was conceived to complement that individuality rather than soften it.
The monochromatic contrast gives Anna a powerful silhouette, while the metallic surfaces, fringe and beading ensure that the look never becomes static or severe.
There is strength in the design, but also movement.
Drama, but also refinement.
That balance is what makes the dress distinctly Anna.
Made in London. Created for Performance
Like the other designs within Anna's growing DSI Fashion collection, this dress was handcrafted by our Made in Londoncouture team.
Creating a successful Latin dress requires considerably more than producing an attractive garment. Fabrics must stretch and recover correctly. Embellishment needs to enhance rather than restrict movement. Fringe must respond naturally to the choreography, while the underlying construction needs to remain secure under demanding competition conditions.
Every creative decision ultimately has to survive one test:
Does it work when the dancer performs?
Anna's white-and-black dress demonstrates how fashion, craftsmanship and performance engineering can come together to create something that is visually distinctive without compromising the freedom demanded by elite Latin dancing.
