Let’s Face the Music and Dance!

24th July 2018

We have a real treat for you this week: the brand new album, Let’s Face the Music and Dance, from the Len Phillips Big Band.

The 16-piece orchestra has played at concerts and social dances for more than 30 years but their most recent release is their very first that’s strictly for dancers.

“We pride ourselves in playing real music that is both inspirational for dancers and engaging for listeners and I hope that’s what we’ve brought to the table here,” says bass player Joe Pettitt, who stepped up as bandleader when Len Phillips retired in 2010.

The 24-track album includes songs for both Latin and Ballroom and features such classics as Good Morning, featuring The Puppini Sisters; Sway, featuring Eleanor Keenan; Let Go! featuring Iain Mackenzie; and the classic title track, Let’s Face the Music and Dance, featuring Matthew Ford.

“Some of the arrangements are those with which you’ll be familiar whilst others are new,” says Joe. “The latter are from the pens of two great arrangers, Callum Au and Phil Steel. There is also one entirely new composition: Todos Tango, again written by Phil Steel.”

Dancers will know the Len Phillips Big Band from prestigious events such as Freedom to Dance, the BDF Star Ball and the Killick Royale Championships. In addition, the band plays regularly at The Ritz in London, as well as at Big Band Dance Breaks, which are held across the country at Warner Leisure Hotels.

The band’s current personnel have, between them, played with everyone from Tom Jones to Freddie Mercury, Ella Fitzgerald to Bing Crosby.
