Latin legend to join Battle of the Ballroom line-up

27th February 2019

Plans are hotting up for the next Battle of the Ballroom on 17th March – which will be filmed LIVE by DSI TV – so much so that it’s hit the national newspapers!

The thrilling event at Ipswich Dance Festival, pioneered by DSI London’s Gerald Schwanzer and Emma Hawley, owner of Ipswich School of Dancing, featured in the Daily Express after Len Goodman, former head judge of Strictly Come Dancing, appeared in a video on Instagram saying how excited he was about the Battle.

Len said: “What a fantastic concept! I love it! Katya’s there judging away – it’s going to be a fabulous day. Now enjoy yourself, dance well and never forget if you stand up straight and smile, you’ll get a ten from Len.”

Head judge of Battle of the Ballroom, Strictly Come Dancing’s Katya Jones, added: “I’m really excited to be on the other side of the competition this time and to be judging the Battle of the Ballroom. It sounds so exciting, but I’m going to be fair and strict, as I’ll be looking for some great dancing! May the best couple win!”

Now, we have one more exciting piece of news to share with you: Latin legend Michael Stylianos will join Emma Hawley as co-compère on 17th March!

With his wife, Lorna Lee, Michael enjoyed one of the most successful Professional Latin American partnerships ever, winning the International seven times, as well as being crowned triple United Kingdom and Open British Professional Champions.

The winner of two Carl Alan Awards, Michael now hosts the Carl Alan with Lorna, as well as a number of hugely popular dancesport competitions. The pair also appeared in Bad Teen To Ballroom Queen on Channel Five last year.

Michael and Lorna said: “The Battle of the Ballroom is an exciting new concept, which leaves the power in the hands of the public. We are delighted to be included and thank DSI for allowing us to have an input.  We anticipate it to be a fabulous day and hope everyone will ‘get involved’. So looking forward to it, we can’t wait!!”

Don’t forget that this year’s Battle of the Ballroom will offer amazing prizes worth £1,500 and will be filmed LIVE by DSI TV, with online voting for the audience and viewers at home, plus new categories for competitors.
