Some dresses command attention through colour. Others through silhouette. Ella’s silver Latin dress created its impact in a different way, through light, texture and movement.
Created for DSI Elite Performer Ella for the 2026 Blackpool Dance Festival, the design was conceived to complement her refined Latin style while creating a constantly changing visual effect as she moved across the floor.
The foundation of the dress is Silver Metallic Mesh, bringing a subtle luminosity to the body while retaining the flexibility essential for unrestricted Latin movement. From this base, three-dimensional elements created in Silver Twinkle introduce additional texture and structure, allowing different surfaces of the dress to respond individually to the light.
Across the bodice, Silver Bugle Beads create a shimmering, fluid surface before blending into Silver individual fringethrough the skirt. Rather than simply decorating the dress, the fringe becomes part of its performance. Every turn, acceleration and change of direction sets it in motion, extending Ella’s movement beyond the body and allowing the dress to continue the line of the choreography.
The embellishment is completed with Crystal and Crystal AB stones, chosen to amplify the reflective qualities of the silver materials without overpowering the overall design.
The result is a dress that never appears completely still.
Under the Blackpool lights, metallic surfaces, beads, stones and fringe continually catch and release the light, creating an impression of movement even within the smallest action.
Designed Around the Dancer
For DSI London, performance couture begins with the individual.
A successful Latin dress must do considerably more than look beautiful when standing still. It must respond to the dancer, support freedom of movement and contribute to the visual character of the performance.
Ella’s dress demonstrates that philosophy particularly clearly. Its drama does not come from heaviness or excess. Instead, the design uses lightness, shimmer and movement to reflect the dancer wearing it.
That is the essence of DSI Fashion: creating performance couture not simply to be seen, but to come alive when danced.
Designed and handcrafted by the DSI London couture team in our London workshop.
