Bringing Chaos to Life — Costumes for A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong
Last year, DSI London had the pleasure of contributing to the stage production of A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong — a show celebrated for its wonderfully chaotic comedy, fast-paced staging, and high physical demands on performers.

Productions of this nature require costumes that go far beyond visual appeal. Every garment must support movement, withstand repeated performance stresses, and remain visually clear to audiences even amidst the intentional mayhem that defines the show’s unique theatrical style.
Working closely with the production’s creative team, our South London studio created a series of key costume pieces designed to balance character definition with durability and performance practicality.
Tailored Character — Scrooge’s Suit
Among the featured garments was Scrooge’s suit, a carefully constructed ensemble consisting of a tailored coat and trousers.
Structured tailoring ensured the silhouette remained recognisable under stage lighting while allowing sufficient flexibility for the physical comedy sequences that are central to the production’s storytelling.
Durability, reinforcement and finish were key considerations throughout the manufacturing process, enabling the costume to withstand the rigours of repeated performances without compromising visual authenticity.
Sculptural Presence — The Statues
The production also featured a series of statue characters requiring bold textural treatment and strong stage presence.
These costumes were developed to read clearly from distance while maintaining the necessary comfort and resilience for extended stage use. Through layered construction and considered material selection, the garments achieved a sculptural aesthetic without restricting performer movement.
Colour & Energy — Fred’s Vibrant Look
A particularly dynamic contribution came in the form of Fred’s vibrant costume, combining a striking red jacket, coordinating waistcoat and plaid trousers.
This bold colour story helped define the character’s lively personality while ensuring strong visual impact under performance lighting conditions.
From Studio Craft to Stage Storytelling
For productions like A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong, costumes become integral storytelling tools. They must communicate character instantly, withstand demanding choreography and comedic timing, and remain consistent throughout a performance run.
Manufactured entirely in our South London studio, these garments reflect DSI London’s ongoing commitment to reliability, craftsmanship and responsiveness, qualities essential for theatre, film and live entertainment productions operating within tight timelines.
It is always deeply rewarding to see our work move from the studio rail to the stage, where design, craft and performance come together to create memorable audience experiences.
