Rebecca's Lockdown Story

I first started practicing yoga 4 years ago in 2017, looking for something to enhance my fitness and flexibility for my dancing. It certainly did this, but I also found I truly enjoyed it and the mental switch off it gave me. Fast forward to March 2020, when Covid hit, and suddenly the travelling and busy dance schedule I was used to was on hold. I really started to get into my yoga practice more, and explore different styles and ways it could help me. It wasn’t until a couple of months later that it occurred to me that I wanted to take this further, study properly and start to share my knowledge with others. I have always loved to teach, and having developed a real passion for yoga, it seemed natural to combine the two. I took a yoga teacher training, qualifying at the end of December. I had already started designing my business idea, and over the past month have begun to put it in motion. ‘Beyond the Mat’ is my way of bringing yoga to everyone, wherever they are. If the past year has taught us anything, it’s that we need to look after ourselves, physically and mentally, especially in difficult times. Yoga is the perfect way to stretch and strengthen the body whilst releasing physical and mental tension that we unknowingly hold in day to day life. Yoga is viewed by many as a practice just for flexible, super fit or strong people, but that’s not the case. It’s about unity and inclusivity, finding a space where everyone can clear their minds, listen to their body and just focus on themselves without feeling self conscious, or judged. I know so many people who want to try yoga, but feel too embarrassed to try an in person class; so that’s where I come in. I will be offering online memberships, with classes in 3 different styles of yoga; Vinyasa, Yin and Restorative, promoting 3 different types of wellness. Members will have 2 or 3 classes a week depending on membership level, and will also receive bonus pre-recorded videos of extra flows, pose tutorials and guided meditation. I want to share my love of yoga in a way that allows people access to this wonderful form of self love, whenever and wherever they want. So if you’re ready for a new adventure, allow me to take you ‘Beyond the mat’. Memberships soon available at website; www.btm-yoga.com Follow @btmyoga on Instagram and Beyond the Mat Yoga on Facebook, for tips, tricks and the odd free flow!
