Strictly: Week 5

24th October 2019

The competition is hotting on Strictly Come Dancing and last week saw us bid a sad farewell to footballer David James and his dance partner Nadiya Bychkova. With Halloween looming spookily on the horizon, it’s an extremely busy week for wardrobe, but costume designer Vicky Gill found the time to share a few insider secrets with us about last week’s most popular dresses.

One of the audience favourites on the night was Catherine Tyldesley’s stunning feathered frock, which had gorgeous movement on the dance floor during her tango. “Blue Zircon limited-edition Sequin was used for the bodice and the top layer of her skirt,” explains Vicky, “while Turquoise Blue and Sapphire Twinkle creates the perfect base for our feather detailing. The fullness of the feather was enough for this tango piece, so no underskirts were required,” she adds. “A small border of Jet AB crystals adorned the neckline.”

Another hit from last week was Saffron Barker’s slinky foxtrot dress. “Limited-edition fabrics helped to create a different look for Saffron,” says Vicky. “A Copper metallic skirt draped on the bias lined with Silver Pearl Chiffon had an amazing effect on camera. Copper, Gold and Silver motifs worked through the bodice over a gold base. Gold embellished strings sat alongside Crystal and Crystal AB embellishment which brought this dress to life on the dance floor.”
