Strictly: Week 4

17th October 2019

Last week was an unforgettable one for Strictly Come Dancing with the first of this series’ shock eliminations. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as we said goodbye to Dev and Dianne and they took to the floor for their last dance…

On a happier note, it was another jam-packed week with more than a little costume magic – in more ways than one! An outstanding dance of the night was Karim and Amy’s tango and they were both sharply dressed for the occasion.

“Amy’s dress was close to a competitive Ballroom shape,” explains costume designer, Vicky Gill. “It started life as a stock shape but worked beautifully for the number. A Navy velvet bodice with limited-edition Navy sequin tulle allowed us to see the underskirts beneath, which drew the eye with their vibrant shades – Rose Pink and Lilac – with hot Hawaiian Pink and Sunrise binding. These helped add light and shade throughout the number. It’s a simple, elegant dress that will work great on the competitive floor as well as TV.”

Another dress that proved very popular with the audience was Emma B’s absolutely stunning Viennese waltz frock. “Emma B’s dress was one of my favourites this week,” says Vicky. “It had a simple square halterneck and the Champagne mesh over Hematite base was a fun play on colour.

“A limited-edition lace ran through the bodice, with delicate embellishment in White Opal, Peach and Light Sapphire stones. The tulle skirt consisted of Fuchsia, Tan, Pale Blue and Black, who knew?” laughs Vicky. “A soft sash connected the skirt to bodice beautifully in the perfect shape for Emma.”
