Strictly: the semi-final!

11th December 2019

We’re almost there! The semi-final of Strictly Come Dancing was another fab-u-lous episode, which saw each couple take on a two-dance challenge. Sadly, it was time to say goodbye to Chris Ramsey and Karen Hauer – a wonderful partnership that’s really developed as the series has progressed.

In the final on Saturday, Kelvin Fletcher and his partner Oti Mabuse will compete against Emma Barton and Anton Du Beke, and Amy Dowden and Karim Zeroual, each performing three dances, including that all-important showdance.

But, before that, we just have time to look back at our penultimate “dress of the week”, Amy’s Argentine tango frock. “This shape is no stranger on the competitive floor,” says costume designer Vicky Gill. “In fact, it’s one favoured by DSI’s Rebecca Scott in recent times. It’s a shape that creates clean, uncluttered lines on the dance floor.

“A foil base was used to create an asymmetrical neckline into a long figure-hugging point to the right side. Amy’s figure looked absolutely amazing in this foil base – not everyone can carry this off – but she looked incredible.”

“An unusual combination of Light Siam, Topaz and Capri Blue crystals were used. Flame red fringe ran down the side and back hemline of the dress, which accentuated the movement and silhouette on set, giving precisely the pop of colour that was required.”

We’d love to know your favourite dress overall from this series of Strictly Come Dancing. Let us know on social media! And if you can’t get enough of the sparkling Strictly dresses, join us at DSI London on one of our Behind the Seams tours, booking now until March 2020.
